Peak flow meter is a portable and easy-to-use device that can measure the ability of the lungs to exhaust air. The peak flow meter can measure the force of air in liters per minute and give you a reading with a built-in digital scale. It measures the airflow through the bronchus, thereby measuring the degree of obstruction in the airway.

Yellow area = caution1. The peak flow is 50% to 80% of the optimal flow, indicating that asthma is deteriorating.2. You may have symptoms and signs such as cough, wheezing or chest tightness, but the peak flow rate may decrease before the symptoms appear.3. Asthma medications may need to be added or changed.
Red zone = danger1. The peak flow is less than 50% of the personal optimal flow, which indicates a medical emergency.2. Severe cough, wheezing and shortness of breath may occur. Dilate the airway with bronchodilators or other drugs.3. See a doctor, take oral corticosteroids or seek emergency care as soon as possible.
